Overcoming Fragmented Data Streams in a Rapidly Evolving Crisis

The unprecedented, dynamic nature of the COVID-19 pandemic severely strained New York City Emergency Management’s (NYCEM) ability to maintain accurate situational awareness across municipal agencies. Crucial data sources from healthcare, economic, and community sectors were constantly shifting, creating major accessibility, reliability, and interpretation roadblocks for emergency responders who needed accurate insights to protect public health.

02. Solution

Building an Automated, Multi-Sector Emergency Data Pipeline

Our team engineered a robust, rapid-analysis data infrastructure under urgent timeframes to support automated operational reporting. We synthesized data from 40+ open-source, private, and agency platforms into a singular data pipeline. Using this infrastructure, we designed, deployed, and managed a comprehensive daily response dashboard tailored for senior officials, translating complex epidemiological and agency data into intuitive, actionable briefs.

By embedding modern visualization tools and continuous data training directly into daily operations, we institutionalized a transformative approach to city-wide response workflows.
